Understanding Wood and Wood Furniture

This is a hands-on course that explores the transformation of wood from the
forest to furniture, including unique properties of wood and species of wood
veneers. Includes cutting methods to achieve different patterns and lay-up
techniques; wood solids characteristics and where used; and construction
methods and finishing techniques.

Two major forces affecting design today are culture and technology. In this
session, participants will explore the characteristics of each generation
and the effect on both the
emotional health of individuals and the organizational welfare of those who
share one work environment.
The presenter will discuss the latest trends as they relate to speed,
display and visual characteristics in our environment and how these elements
affect the broad range of generations in today’s workforce.
Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the convergence
phenomenon and how to use this information to leverage the design of space
to promote positive relationships
among the generations.

Lauri Lidiak is a Market Manager for the Details division of Steelcase, Inc.
The Details division product portfolio includes computer support tools,
lighting, organizational work tools, privacy solutions and height adjustable
tables. The company is headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Lauri joined Details in 1994 after sixteen years of sales experience in the
commercial furnishings industry. In her years as a sales consultant she has
interfaced with major design firms. In this capacity, she brings resources
and information that is critical to the application and design of Details
ergonomic work tools to corporate and educational projects. Lauri is
responsible for the Florida region.
Prior to her association with Steelcase, Lauri was employed as an A&D sales
representative with Haworth, Inc. for four years in north Florida. Earlier
she was a sales representative for a commercial furnishings dealer for five
years and with Geiger International and Kinetics for two years each as a
sales representative.
Lauri is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX
where she majored in Interior Design with a minor in Art.
